# The month fourteen curve

Two cumulative curves over twenty-four months. The grey one is what building it costs, and it ends. The green one is what keeping it running costs, and it does not. Where they cross, maintaining has already cost more than building.

Conversations per month: 2,000

Channels: 1

Product changes per quarter: 2

**Your crossing lands in month 14.** From there on, what you have spent keeping it running already exceeds what you spent building it, and it keeps running.

**What pulls it in the most:** adding one channel moves it to month 11\. Doubling the product changes per quarter moves it to month 11\. Volume is what moves it least, and it is the only one everybody asks about.

## The model, in the open

In people-equivalent: build = 3.2 plus 0.6 per extra channel, spent once across the first four months. Maintain per month = 0.12 plus 0.02 per thousand conversations, plus 0.05 per extra channel, plus 0.035 per product change. It is an illustrative model built from our own implementation numbers, not the measurement of any customer.

## How to read it

* The grey curve flattens in month four and never climbs again. The green one never flattens: that is the difference between a project and a system in production.
* The crossing is not a calendar date, it is the consequence of three numbers. Move them one at a time and see which one pulls it in the most.
* Volume is what moves the crossing least, and it is the only one asked about in the first meeting. Channels and how often the product changes move it far more.

## The playbook already exists. We multiply it.
