# How far each layer gets, in your process

A process's real steps, with three layers laid over them: the channel that carries the messages, the flows that answer and the execution that writes into your systems. Move how far each layer reaches and the table says how many steps it covers and where the person shows up.

That is 3 steps. The channel gets to 1, flows to 3 and execution to 3.

It is the only process where two of the three columns fill completely, which makes it the worst criterion for choosing a platform: it is the one almost all of them win.

A column fills down to where that layer gets on its own, and the figure marks the step where a person takes over. How the process splits into steps is ours, taken from how it gets done. What is not arguable is where it cuts: at the first step that requires touching a system.
